The How & Why of Gaining Godly Wisdom

If you were to ask yourself who you’d consider wise…who comes to mind?
You might think of a parent, pastor, teacher, mentor, or even a good friend. These people may be very different, but one thing they probably have in common is the way they live out their daily lives. They likely follow wise counsel, make good decisions, and think before they speak.
But more important than wisdom alone is Godly wisdom. As believers, our wisdom should come from the ultimate source of wisdom - God himself and His Word! There are a lot of ideas and ideologies that sound good, but can lead us away from God if not directly from Him.

I want to encourage and support you as you seek Godly wisdom! Here are 3 steps you can follow to get started:
1. Develop a fear of the Lord.
The Bible tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom (Proverbs 9:10), but true wisdom must be reflected in our actions! To fear the Lord means to be in complete awe of His holiness, honor Him, glorify Him, and respect his power and authority. Having a healthy fear of God allows us to take his commands seriously, which promises us a full and purposeful life! “You make known to me the path of life, you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 16:11
2. Pray, ask for, and seek wisdom.
Matthew 21:22 says “if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” We can simply ASK the Lord for wisdom and find it in His written word. We can listen to Him as He speaks to us through prayer, scripture, and even dreams and visions.
3. Act on wisdom.
It takes both wisdom and faith to step out and act. Some of those steps will come naturally in the way you speak to or treat others and exemplify the fruit of the spirit, while some may be more intentional and require a lot more faith and trust to carry out. The good thing is that we can always lean on Him and trust him to guide our steps. Proverbs 4:11-13 “Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble."

Remember, the Lord is always with you and always at your right hand! Even when you stumble or head in the wrong direction, He’s there to keep you from falling and guide you back to where He wants you.
